Basic Photo Tools
  • Windows XP:
  • Not much built into Windows XP.  MS Office has basic photo editing tool. Usually dependent on camera software or Freeware.  Photo Meister is an easy solution to keep costs down.


  • Windows Vista:
  • Has Windows Photo Gallery for basic photo editing.  Very similar to MS Office Picture manager.  Lets you crop resize, and remove redeye.

  • Photomeister is a great tool for basic editing and organization.  If you want to do more advanced editing photomeister will open Gimp for you.

Gimp Installation

Photomeister Installation
  • Once Gimp is Installed you will need to make a decision on whether or not to install photomeister.


  • If you are using Windows Vista you do not need photomeister.  You have Windows Photo Gallery


  • If you are using Windows XP and do not have photo organization software use photomeister.

Digital Photography Vista users
  • Windows Photo Gallery should be used with GIMP.  You may use PhotoMeister but lose the import and export features with vista components such as MovieMaker and taking to a DVD directly.


  • It is a simple 2 step process each time you want to do advanced editing with GIMP.
